Notice: After Hours Activity Noted at Duskmoor Cemetery
There has been an increase in after-hours visits to the cemetery. We wish to remind you that this is trespassing.
To the Residents of Duskmoor,
We’ve recently received multiple reports of late-night trespassing and flashlight tag games taking place in Duskmoor Cemetery after dark. While we understand the temptation (especially this time of year) to turn local lore and late-night dares into entertainment, the cemetery is not the place for games.
Earlier this week, our deputies responded to a call from a nearby resident who spotted several individuals running between headstones around 10:30 PM. By the time we arrived, the group had already left. However, there was evidence of damage, including one knocked-over headstone and trampled flower arrangements at multiple gravesites.
We want to be clear:
The cemetery is closed to the public from dusk to dawn.
Trespassing after hours is a violation of town code and may result in fines or citations.
Damaging gravesites—even unintentionally—is not only disrespectful, it's illegal.
This isn't about spoiling anyone’s fun. It’s about respect. The cemetery is a resting place for many of Duskmoor’s families, and some of the names on those stones belong to people whose loved ones still live here.
And yes, we know the stories, the ones about lights in the trees, strange figures in the fog, and voices carried on the wind. Whether or not you believe in Duskmoor’s more mysterious history, let’s agree on this much: the cemetery isn’t where you want to find out what’s real and what isn’t.
Parents, please talk to your kids and teens about appropriate places to hang out after dark. We’ll be increasing patrols in the area through the fall season.
If you witness any after-hours activity in the cemetery or have information about recent damage, please contact us.
Let’s keep our town respectful, and a little less haunted.
Sincerely,
Sheriff Caldwell
Duskmoor Sheriff’s Department
