A Message from the Duskmoor Sheriff's Department: The Great Pumpkin Smash Must End

Large numbers of fall gourds and pumpkins have been destroyed by unknown vandals. This must end.

Citizens of Duskmoor,

Over the past week, our usually quiet streets have been hit with an outbreak of what we can only describe as seasonal vandalism. We’re talking about the late-night destruction of pumpkins, smashed across sidewalks, splattered in driveways, and left as messy hazards in the roads.

Let us be clear: while this might seem like harmless Halloween mischief to some, the Duskmoor Sheriff’s Department considers this petty crime vandalism, and it will not be tolerated.

Pumpkin smashing, while often dismissed as a prank, creates real problems in our community

  • Hazards for drivers and pedestrians

  • Property damage

  • A mess that neighbors are left to clean up

  • Distress for families, especially children, who worked hard on their fall decorations

We understand the spirit of fun that the Halloween season brings, but fun stops where damage, disrespect, and disregard for community begins.

Our deputies are currently investigating several incidents reported across Oak Hollow, Mill Creek Lane, and the downtown historic district. If you have home security footage, eyewitness information, or any leads on who may be responsible for this wave of destruction, we urge you to come forward.

We’re a close-knit town, and we pride ourselves on treating each other, and each other’s property, with respect. Let’s work together to put a stop to this streak of nonsense before it escalates further.

Thank you for helping keep Duskmoor safe, tidy, and neighborly.

Stay safe,
Sheriff Caldwell
Duskmoor Sheriff’s Department
